How to Accurately Measure and Provide a Drawing for a Countertop Quote

Accurate measurements and a clear drawing are essential for receiving an accurate countertop quote. Follow these steps to ensure you capture the correct dimensions and details for your project.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools
  1. Measuring tape

  2. Graph paper or plain paper

  3. Pencil

  4. Calculator (optional)

  5. Ruler or straight edge

Step 2: Sketch the Layout
  1. Draw a Rough Outline:

  2. Start by drawing a rough outline of your countertop layout on the paper. Include all sections such as counters, islands, and bar tops.

  3. Label Each Section:

  4. Label each section of your drawing (e.g., Main Counter, Island, Bar Top) to avoid confusion.

Step 3: Measure Each Section
  1. Measure Length and Width:

  2. Use your measuring tape to measure the length and width of each section of your countertop. Measure from wall to edge and from one end to the other.

  3. Write down the measurements on your drawing.

  4. Include Cutouts:

  5. Measure and mark the locations of sinks, cooktops, and any other cutouts. Measure the distance from the edges to the center of each cutout.

  6. Check Overhangs:

  7. Measure any overhangs where the countertop extends beyond the cabinets. Note the depth of the overhang on your drawing.

Step 4: Add Edge Details
  1. Mark Edge Styles:

  2. Indicate the edge style you want for each section of the countertop (e.g., Straight Edge, Bullnose, Ogee). If different sections have different edges, note this clearly.

Step 5: Verify Your Measurements
  1. Double-Check:

  2. Go over all your measurements and ensure they are correct. Accurate measurements are crucial for a precise quote.

  3. Calculate Total Square Footage:

  4. For each section, multiply the length by the width to get the square footage. Add up all the square footage for the total area.

Step 6: Finalize Your Drawing
  1. Neat and Clear:

  2. Redraw your layout neatly, if necessary, ensuring all measurements and details are easy to read.

  3. Include Notes:

  4. Add any additional notes that might be helpful, such as the type of stone you prefer, specific design requests, or any special considerations.

Step 7: Submit Your Drawing
  1. Scan or Photograph:

  2. If you have a scanner, scan your drawing. Alternatively, take a clear photo of your drawing with your phone.

  3. Email or Upload:

  4. Send the scanned image or photo to your countertop provider via email or upload it through their website, if they have an upload feature.

Notes:
  1. Sink cutout: Centered, 10 inches from the left edge.

  2. Edge Style: Bullnose

By following these steps, you will provide accurate measurements and a clear drawing, helping ensure you receive a precise and detailed quote for your new countertops. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
